Maila, a basket weaver, his wife Maile, and 7-year-old son Bindray live a simple village life in the mountainous region of eastern Nepal. When a road to their village is finally built, they see it as a blessing. Soon, along with the first bus, soda, television, and hip hop beats arrive. But as modern amenities creep in, Maila's life begins to unravel. He is trapped between sticking to tradition at home or going beyond the village to survive. Meanwhile, Bindray uses his resourcefulness to get closer to the gifts the new road brings. Ultimately Maila and Maile must figure out how to continue living in a world that is leaving them behind.

BIOGRAPHY

Director | Nabin Subba

Nabin Subba emerged as a prominent Nepalese director in 2002 with his highly praised feature film Numafung. His subsequent works, including the TV series Dalan and his third feature film Goodbye Kathmandu solidified his reputation as an auteur. Known for his focus on the Nepalese indigenous community, Nabin Subba is also recognized as one of the pioneer of the independent film movement in Nepalese cinema. He is among the first Nepali filmmakers to participate in international film festivals as his debut film Khangri (1996). In 2023 he returns with his feature film A Road to a Village which was officially selected at several world prestigious film festivals.
